There may not be a band in Texas that is as busy, or having as much fun, as the Austin-based Soul Track Mind. This group of young musicians is traversing the state to perform what Texas Monthly called a “revved up version of the way back soul machine.” The band’s modern take on ‘60s era soul, jazz, R & B, rock and funk music has appeal to all age groups and earned them a spot as a 2011 Austin Music Awards finalist.

Soul Track Mind will bring its act to Kingwood for the first time on Fri., Aug. 19 from 7-10 p.m., performing at the Keller Williams concert at Kings Harbor. The free concert is presented by the agents at Keller Williams Realty Northeast and sponsored by Alspaugh’s Ace Hardware.
The seven-piece band is led by energetic vocalist Donovan Keith and includes a dynamic brass section whose sound is sure to reverberate nicely off the Harbor buildings. Not only do they know the oldies, the guys in the band dress retro too, wearing suit vests and ties at their concerts.
Soul Track Mind got its start at the hip TC’s Lounge in East Austin and are regulars at Antone’s, Austin’s home of the blues. Their debut album, “Ghost of Soul,” released last year generated much media attention, including a mention in The New York Times Magazine, which named the band as part of a nationwide resurgence of soul music.
The concert’s featured charity will be the Humble ISD Education Foundation, which funds innovative educational programs that lead to increased student achievement. The non-profit organization will hold a fund-raising raffle with prizes donated by the Kings Harbor merchants. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
Kings Harbor is at 1660 W. Lake Houston Pkwy., Kingwood. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Glass containers are prohibited. For more concert information, visit: www.clickKWne.com
