Golf Tournament to Benefit the Troops

The Doug Erdy Team from Keller Williams Realty Northeast has announced that their 6th annual charity golf tournament will benefit the Blue Star Mothers, a service organization of parents whose children are in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The four person scramble tournament will be held on Aug. 16 at The Clubs of Kingwood with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $125 for one golfer or $500 for a team of four. A military discount is available. In addition to great golf, the entry fee includes an on-course box lunch and a sit-down dinner awards ceremony with a silent auction.

“This is a terrific opportunity to support our military and their families,” said Erdy. “The proceeds will enable the Blue Star Mothers to fulfill a major shipment of care packages to several hundred service men and service women deployed overseas.”

Erdy and his team have hosted the tournament for the past five years,  raising more than $15,000 annually for the troops. This is the first time that the tournament will be held at the Kingwood courses. Sponsorship opportunities are available for a donation of $100 to up $4,000. Auction item donations are also welcome. Continental and AeroMexico airline tickets are already in the auction line-up.

The tournament will begin with a military color guard ceremony and the arrival of an Apache military helicopter landing on the course. The Houston Texans Cheerleaders are scheduled to be at the event to sign autographs and hand out their calendars.

“Blue Star Moms is very excited about being the benefactors of this golf tournament,” said Mary Davis, president of the Blue Star Mothers Houston Area Chapter. “The funds will allow us to continue our mission to support (those) who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces of the United States. We have many service projects such as mailing packages to our deployed troops, making cool ties and helmet liners, and supporting veteran’s organizations and their projects. The funds from the golf tournament will be put to good use as we continue to support our military and their families.”
