Contemporary Art Museum
Holocaust Museum Houston is dedicated to educating people about the Holocaust, remembering the 6 million Jews and other innocent victims and honoring the survivors’ legacy. Using the lessons of the Holocaust and other genocides, we teach the dangers of hatred, prejudice and apathy.
The Houston Maritime Museum is the first of its kind in Houston. Exhibits include over 150 ship models, over 100 types of navigational instruments, and numerous maritime artifacts. In 1948, the Battleship TEXAS became the first battleship memorial museum in the U.S. That same year, on the anniversary of Texas Independence, the Texas was presented to the State of Texas and commissioned as the flagship of the Texas Navy.
Not far from downtown Houston lies Brazos Bend State Park (S.P.), a scenic haven for birdwatchers and wildlife observers. More than 270 species of birds have been sighted here, and the prehistoric-looking American alligator is the park’s most noteworthy resident. Hiking and biking trails meander through the park’s varied terrains, and several lakes offer excellent fishing.
