1. Call insurance company. Many do not have flood insurance due to the nature of how extensive the water rose in areas that were never meant to flood. FEMA will need a denial letter from insurance company to approve assistance.
2. Separate your property. Do not throw away items before a claims adjuster has seen them. At a minimum take photos and video of the damage.
3. Make a list of damaged contents. List quantities, estimated costs, brand names/model & serial numbers.
4. List areas of structual damage. This will be another area the claims adjuster will want to see. FEMA may also need this information also. At a minimum take photos or video when possible.
We hope these steps help make the processes easier while you or family and friends clean and rebuild
